If I’m honest, The Hash Kitchen had me at “Coconut + Almond Encrusted French Toast.” I’ve been dreaming about the delicious sounding menu, which includes a nice mix of savory and sweet, with options like Herb Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict and Cannoli Pancakes. Well, we recently stopped in for brunch and it met all of my expectations and then some. I mean there’s a DIY Bloody Mary Bar, oh and a weekend DJ.
The space is airy, with a cool, yet relaxed vibe. We got there around 10 am and had about a 20-minute wait for a table, which wasn’t terrible for weekend brunch. Our waiter was friendly and made some great meal suggestions, plus he gave us the rundown on the Bloody Marys. The vodka infusions include a bacon-flavored creation, plus the House Mary Mix is AMAZING. On the whole, both Myles and I would rate their Bloody Marys as one of the best we’ve ever had (his was the alcoholic and mine the virgin).
And if the drinks weren’t enough to hook us, the food was also top notch. The ingredients are fresh and sourced from local farms. Also, an added bonus for those who are gluten-free: the waffles and pancakes can be made sans gluten. Logan’s godparents (who were visiting for his birthday) were with us and between the group we sampled the Lump Crab + Sweet Potato Hash, Pulled Pork Beni, Smoked Sliced Brisket + Corn Bread Hash, and the Croque Madame Sandwich. You’d think we’d stop there, but couldn’t leave without trying the Coconut + Almond Encrusted French Toast. Everything was beyond delicious, so much so that I’m already planning my next visit back!
Things to note:
* The 411 on the DIY Bloody Mary Bar. First things first — the House Mary Mix comes in three levels of heat: mild, medium, and spicy. I chose the medium, which I thought was perfectly spicy, any more so and it probably would have been too hot for me. Myles had the spicy and says it was slightly hotter than mine, but he has a much higher tolerance for spice than I do (and I love spicy). Also, there are tons of fixing options, ranging from bacon strips to oysters. The price to build your own is $10 and that includes all the toppings you want. And if Bloody Marys aren’t your thing, there are also some delicious mimosa options, including peach, watermelon, and blood orange fruit purees.
* Hash Kitchen is open daily from 7 am to 3 pm. We visited on a Sunday morning and like most places, the earlier you get there the shorter your wait time.
* It’s family friendly. There were a good number of families dining there, many of which had babies. It was nice because the volume was comfortable where you could easily carry on a conversation at your table, but loud enough where you couldn’t hear the people seated near you. (This is great for those times when your child decides to get a little boisterous — no one would notice and take offense!) There’s also a delicious kids menu with options like short stack buttermilk or chocolate chip pancakes and grilled cheese Panini.
* The atmosphere as a whole lends itself to helping create a comfortable and fun dining experience. When we went there was a weekend DJ spinning modern tracks, and we learned that there are also live bands that showcase! Between the food, drinks, and entertainment, Hash Kitchen is sure to become a family favorite. Or a go-to brunch spot for momma and daddy date day!
